The Link Between Health and Well-Being

We all need health. In this country we are all required by law to have a minimum amount of health insurance. In many ways it is the safety net of society. And yet we sometimes take it for granted. When something happens to us that is unexpected, often we fall short and it can be devastating.

Heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, and other illnesses and diseases affect nearly half of all Americans at some point in their lives. Health, as defined by the World Health Organization, is a state of full physical, emotional and social well being and not just the absence of illness and infirmity. A range of definitions have also been used over the years for different purposes. For instance, the Oxford Dictionary defines health as the condition of being able to enjoy one’s life fully. It is viewed as the state that one gets to enjoy the benefits of living a long and healthy life and to live life in a satisfactory manner.

This definition is the way most people think of health. However, there are many other ways to look at health. Defined health is influenced by a number of circumstances that a person faces in their life. These circumstances can include a major life event, such as losing a job or getting married. They can also be the result of a lifetime of unhealthy living, such as smoking and obesity.

The best way to improve your mental, emotional, and physical well-being is to adopt a lifestyle that is consistent with good health. We all need good food, regular exercise, adequate sleep, and a healthy diet. In our modern society, we often overlook these aspects and we suffer as a result. Living a healthy life course provides a great platform for building good health.

In order to achieve this goal, you should try to avoid any environmental factors that may be detrimental to your mental health. It is known that most major diseases are associated with either a combination of stress and environmental factors, such as poor air quality, high pollution levels and inadequate sunlight exposure. Many people have the wrong idea that if they are not exposed to extreme mental or environmental factors then they will not develop any physical illness. This is untrue. It is likely that both mental illness and physical illness are intimately connected.

It is important to identify and deal with any physical illness as soon as possible in order to prevent the onset of mental illness. A common example of a physical illness causing both mental health problems is heart disease. People who suffer from heart disease are also more likely to develop serious depression as well. Depression can lead to substance abuse, which can worsen an already existing physical illness.
